pioneers of change is a festival of dutch design, fashion and architecture on governors island in new york. it continues this weekend, september 18-20.

governors island is always a great little getaway, just a short (and free) ferry ride from downtown manhattan. although it did get very crowded last weekend.

the dimensions of color

07/27/09

artlightingother

what are the ‘real’ primary colors? the red, yellow and blue of the conventional color wheel? or the printer’s yellow, magenta and cyan? or the primaries for mixing colored lights – red, green, and blue?

why are there 3 primary colors in the first place and not for example 7?

why do colors form a circle, when the spectrum does not?

color

these and a lot of other questions are discussed at http://www.huevaluechroma.com, a website by david briggs on the dimensions of color and light perception.

sometimes a bit heavy on the technical side of things. and it may leave you even more confused then before. but still a great read for anybody interested in more than the absolute basics of color theory.

artcompetitionother

my friend kandice over at honeststab.com has two great articles on the first annual gowanus art space jello competition.

the first article has pictures of several entries and some general background, the second one describes their process of creating the pieces she did together with julia green, ending up winning first price.

(there’s also a related video over at mcbrooklyn.)
