yes, today is world industrial design day.
quote of the day:
‘… perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away …’
- antoine de saint-exupéry, in wind, sand and stars, 1939
jason morris, industrial design instructor at western washington university has posted a very nice video on form development work of some of his students.
starting with abstract exercises with a focus on proportions, gesture, and composition, the pieces are then developed into functional objects, while maintaining their core form elements.
(i only wish he would have chosen some slightly different music …)

my friend kandice over at honeststab.com has two great articles on the first annual gowanus art space jello competition.
the first article has pictures of several entries and some general background, the second one describes their process of creating the pieces she did together with julia green, ending up winning first price.
(there’s also a related video over at mcbrooklyn.)
congrats kandice and julia!
